Model Description:
Frame Memory Unit for Mavica and DXC-930

Model Details

The MPU-F100A provides frame synchronization capability, accepting a variety of video playback sources such as ProMavica recorders/players, VTRs, and video disc players. It also absorbs jitter and skew errors, working as a time base corrector. In combination with a ProMavica recorder/player it provides jitter-free pictures with a smooth transition from one picture to another. Further, by using the MPU-F100A, some simple picture effects such as mosaic, posterization, and multi-picture are available.

Features:

  • Frame synchronization
  • Simple connection with ProMavica player and recorders
  • Multiple inputs/outputs
  • Picture effects
  • External Genlock capability
  • Noise reduction
  • RS-232C interface
  • Still Video Control
  • Video Signal Control
  • The MPU-F100 accepts asynchronous video signals, locks them with the house sync and outputs synchronous video signals. It also provides time base error correction to eliminate skew errors and jitter. These functions enable video playback sources including ProMavica recorders/players to be used in various video systems such as computer graphics, CATV, POP and POI operations.
  • ProMavica recorders/players show video signal muting during the transition of the head movement from one picture to another. The MPU-F100 eliminates this phenomenon by storing a picture in the frame memory. Also, using the LAP DISSOLVE function, one picture can switch over to another with 1.2 second of transition time. The MPU-F100 and a ProMavica recorder/player should be connected via an optional interface cable, IFC-100 (2m).
  • In combination with a ProMavica recorder/player, three kinds of still video control modes are available.ON mode: The MPU-F100 freezes a picture automatically when the ProMavica deck goes into playback mode. Also, when the deck plays back a different track, the MPU-F100 freezes a new picture.OFF mode: There is no functional relation between the ProMavica deck and the MPU-F100.TIMER STOP mode: The ProMavica deck goes into the stop mode after continuously playing back the same picture for ten minutes, without track change. After the deck is in the stop mode, the frozen picture remains.
  • The MPU-F100 can input and output composite video, component video (RGB or Y/R-Y/B-Y selectable) and Y/C separate video signals. It acts as a perfect transcoder.
  • Simple picture effects of MOSAIC, POSTERIZATION and MULTI-PICTURE (3 x 3) are provided by using a frame memory.
  • The MPU-F100 is equipped with an external Genlock input connector for composite video or black burst input.
  • The MPU-F100 can control hue and color level of the composite and Y/C separate video signals, and video level and setup level of the input signals.
  • The noise reduction circuit for still pictures is equipped, providing four steps of noise reduction levels.
  • The RS-232C interface is employed for an external computer control.
  • Power Requirement: 120V AC
  • Power Consumption: 35W
  • External Control: RS-232C, D-sub 25-pin female for micro computer controlCONTROL 1 (A), D-sub 9-pin male for ProMavica Recorders/ Players via IFC-100 interface cableCONTROL 1 (B), D-sub 9-pin female for RM-52

REAR PANEL

ID REF IN and OUT connectors (BNC type), and 75 ohm switch

Connect to the external reference sync signal generator which supplies the reference sync signal of composite video or black burst. When the MPU-F100 accepts the reference signal, the video signal synchronized automatically.

For distributing the reference sync signal to other equipment, use either connector as an output one for loop-through connection and set the 75 ohm switch to OFF.

VIDEO IN connectors (BNC type) and 75 ohm switch

Connect to the VIDEO OUT connector of the recorder/player or VCR.

For distributing the video signal to other equipment, use either connector as an output one for loop-through connection and set the 75 ohm switch to OFF.

RGB (Y/R-Y/B-Y)/SYNC IN connectors (RGB input) (BNC type)

Connect to the R, G, B, and SYNC output connectors of the recorder/player. Either RGB input or R-Y/Y/B-Y input can be selected with the DIP switch.

S VIDEO IN connector (S type)

Accepts S video input signal. Connect the recorder/player or VCR having S video output.

CONTROL-1 (A) connector (9-pin)

Connect the recorder/player using the IFC-100 interface cable (not supplied) for interlock operation.

RS-232C connector

Connect the computer for controlling the MPU-F100. For details on the computer control, refer to the interface manual of the MPU-F100.

AC IN

Connect the supplied power cable.

VIDEO OUT connector (BNC type) Connecting option:
- if you want to monitor the video before your encoder, connect to the video input connector of a color video monitor with a loop through and connect to your Encoding device video input ( you should do the same for the audio).
- or connect to the video input connector of your VCR.

RGB (Y/R-Y/B-Y) SYNC OUT connectors (RGB output) (BNC type)

Connect the R, G, B, and SYNC input connectors of a color monitor or a computer. The RGB or the Y/R-Y/B-Y output signal can be selected by the DIP switch.

S VIDEO OUT connector (S type)

Connect a monitor having S video input.

CONTROL-1 (B) connector (9-pin)

Connect the RM-52 remote control unit (not supplied) for remotely controlling the recorder/player which is connected to the MPU-F100.

DIP switches

Set the switches for baud rate setting of the RS-232C connector, the picture position adjustment of RGB input, input signal selection and output signal selection of RGB or R-Y/Y/B-Y.

EXT CTRL (external control input signal) connector (mini jack)

Used for controlling the MPU-F100 with an open/short control signal. When the signal is shorted, the MPU-F100 grabs a picture in memory. When it is opened, the grabbed picture is released.
